Help me plan the pre-BasedCon event(s)!
Should we do another publishing workshop? Or something else?
The past two years we’ve done a two-day publishing workshop on the Thursday and Friday prior to BasedCon. I’m happy to do the workshop again (and I try to keep the content fresh each time I do it), but it might be getting a little repetitive for some people.
Are you interested in attending a publishing workshop? If you’ve attended one of the previous workshops, do you have any suggestions for new material we could cover (or guests we could invite)? Do you have suggestions for other types of educational events we could run prior to the con? An afternoon at the gun range? A martial arts demonstration? A hands-on cover design workshop using AI tools? Some kind of scientific demonstration?
Leave a comment below and let me know!
If you haven’t registered yet for BasedCon 2026, you can do that here.

A round-table discussion on NewPub one day, with a list of questions to guide and everyone sharing what they know. A discussion on AI the next day, including an art workshop as Joe suggests but also incorporating what text AI is good for and what should be avoided. It's possible either could take both days, but they are also both very timely.
I've been wanting to attend and haven't been able yet. An AI art workshop would be good, as this is the coming thing, and I think resistance to it will fold very shortly. All the other suggestions would be attractive too.
