Help me plan this year’s panels (and other activities)!
Usually I have most of the panels planned by this point, but this year has been… special. The good news is that you still have time to get your panel suggestions in!
If you have an idea for a panel, talk, debate, performance, game, or any other sort of activity that you’d like to see at BasedCon this year, please comment below. Even if you’ve already told me, because I probably forgot.
I can’t guarantee I’ll use all the ideas, but there’s a good chance I will, because I’m lazy and I like making other people do the work. Help me out and leave a comment!
Here's a few I've been thinking of over the last year:
Cowboys in Space (a panel focusing on space Westerns and sci-fi influenced by Westerns; would be a continuation of the "Jews in Space" and "Catholics in Space" panels)
Science-Fantasy in the Modern Day (a panel discussing the science-fantasy genre and its differences from straight-forward science-fiction)
Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, and the Planet Vigilantes (a panel discussing the "sci-fi hero" archetype personified by pulp and comic strip characters like Rogers and Gordon)
Generational influence on fiction: the type of stories favored during our childhood and young adult years are no longer as popular (outside Hollywood, anyway). New (like litRPG) and rediscovered (like isakai) genres are viral...and attracting younger readers like nothing else. A lot of this was predictable by studying the generational patterns observed by Strauss and Howe. And we can make generalized predictions about future developments.
