A round-table discussion on NewPub one day, with a list of questions to guide and everyone sharing what they know. A discussion on AI the next day, including an art workshop as Joe suggests but also incorporating what text AI is good for and what should be avoided. It's possible either could take both days, but they are also both very timely.

I've been wanting to attend and haven't been able yet. An AI art workshop would be good, as this is the coming thing, and I think resistance to it will fold very shortly. All the other suggestions would be attractive too.

"How to gain readers by committing spectacular crimes."

"Using top makeover strategies to boost readership via OnlyFans."

"Reliving the life of Homeric bards, or, South America on $5/Day!"

Boy, I am seriously unhelpful.

I like Jamie's suggestion of a roundtable on NewPub. A segment on AI is also probably going to be relevant (with updated content) every year going forward. Another publishing workshop would be fine as well. I expect to attend the pre-event regardless of what it is.

Just to note, though: the room block starts on Thursday. If we plan for more than one pre-day, we'll have to make arrangements.

What we've done in the past is have the events go 8-5 on Thurs and Fri. The con starts in earnest at 6pm Fri.

If we do that again we'll either need an extension to the room block to include Wednesday, or to book Wednesday separately at standard room rates. My current reservation is for Thursday through Saturday (checking out Sunday).

Generally I’d space out the topics so they’re able to help at different points in the process. From bringing a story idea to life to getting one’s work published. Since it’s constantly evolving, I’d say we can safely do the AI Art portion every year from now on without it becoming old. Now that I think about it, it’d also be great to touch base on what other parts of the industry are evolving as well.

I'm not a writer myself, though I also realize that BaseCon is primarily a writer's convention. So a Pre-Con writer's event makes sense, even though I'll almost certainly never attend. But I do really like the gun range idea. Or maybe some homesteading-related stuff? And as a gamer I'm always down for something along those lines - a one-off D&D game or a board game / card game event.

It's not *necessarily* a writers' con... it's just that a lot of writers keep showing up. :D

Perhaps a writing skills class, the nuts and bolts of writing a quality story. @monalisafoster teaches some excellent classes, I took one on POV a few years ago, and this year she taught a story structure class at fencon.

Any writing workshop works for me. The AI art idea is a good one. I know we had that demonstration. What about a medical demonstration? Evaluating a trauma casualty perhaps. I'd be interested and happy to attend any of it.

Jon Del Arroz could do something about AI, something about marking, and probably something else really fun.
